I’ve been walking through a season lately that feels like everything is shifting beneath my feet. Plans are unsettled. The future looks foggy. And if I’m honest, I don’t always know what’s coming next. If you’ve ever been in that place—where you’re doing your best to stay sober and stand strong, but the weight of the unknown creeps in—this post is for you.
Because here’s the truth: uncertainty doesn’t have to shake your sobriety. In fact, it can strengthen your faith.
When Fear Creeps In
When we get sober, we often crave control. It’s how we feel safe again—we want to plan everything, fix everything, know everything. But life rarely plays by our rules. And in those moments of uncertainty—a move, a financial burden, a relationship shift, or just the ache of not knowing what’s next—the old temptations whisper.
“Just one drink.”
“You’re overwhelmed. You deserve it.”
“What’s the point of all this hard work?”
But friend, can I remind you of something powerful?
Your sobriety isn’t built on perfect circumstances. It’s built on your decision to surrender—not just alcohol, but everything—into the hands of a faithful God.
Faith Over Fear
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” That’s real faith—not knowing what’s coming but trusting the One who does.
God sees what you can’t. He’s already standing in your next step. He’s already working all things for good—even the things you don’t understand yet.
What Helps Me Stay Sober in Uncertain Seasons
- I speak truth out loud. When fear rises, I say what I know: “God is with me. I am not alone. I am sober by grace, and I’m staying that way.”
- I simplify my days. I can’t control tomorrow, but I can choose what I do today. Drink water. Go for a walk. Pray. Rest. Repeat.
- I connect with sober, faith-filled women. Community reminds me I’m not walking this path alone.
- I remember why I started. My clarity, my peace, my calling—they’re all worth more than any drink could ever offer.
A Prayer for Uncertain Days
Lord, when I feel anxious about what’s ahead, help me cling to You. Remind me that my sobriety is secure in Your hands, not mine. You are my strength, my peace, and my steady place. Give me faith to walk forward one day at a time. Amen.
You’re Not Alone
If you’re feeling wobbly in this season, I want you to hear me: you’re not weak, you’re growing. Staying sober when things are shaky isn’t just brave—it’s holy. And you don’t have to figure it all out today. You just have to stay rooted in the One who’s already holding tomorrow.
With you in this,
Sarah
